It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Kobus van Zyl, former executive director of Daimler Trucks and Buses Southern Africa.

He suffered a stroke on the evening of 12 June and passed away on the morning of 13 June.

After high school, he attended the University of the Free State and completed a B Comm Hons in Business Economics. He later attended Stellenbosch University where he completed his MBA in Business Economics.

Van Zyl joined Mercedes-Benz Financial Services in 1999 under operations and then moved to sales and marketing.

He was the sales director of financial services at Mercedes-Benz South Africa in 2005, before becoming the divisional manager for Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles in 2006.

He lead the Commercial Vehicles division from 2008 until his retirement from Mercedes-Benz South Africa in 2016, first as vice president of sales and marketing and later as executive director of Daimler Trucks and Buses Southern Africa.

In his latest role, van Zyl was general manager of JIPCO (Juffali Industrial Products Company), part of National Automotive Industries, a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles and EA Juffali and Brothers in Jeddah in the Makkah Region of Saudi Arabia.

He is survived by his wife Lynette, and children Pierre (27), Mignon (25) and Marlon (20).

The transport industry extends its heartfelt condolences to Kobus’ loved ones during this difficult time.
