Flatbed trailer tender for the SAPS won by Serco

Flatbed trailer tender
Serco's 3D modelling capabilities proved the difference

Serco has won a flatbed trailer tender to build two step-deck trailers for the South African Police Services (SAPS).

The SAPS wanted special design features, which Serco could provide thanks to its design software, which uses 3D modelling and its steel fabrication facility in Durban.

The trailer features a 10-ton winch to load heavy vehicles, should they not be drivable. It is designed such that armoured vehicles can offload by driving from the front directly onto a standard flatdeck trailer, if required.

Serco worked hand-in-hand with SAPS technical staff to ensure all operational specification requirements were met as per the flatbed trailer tender.

Production on the flatbed trailers started in August 2016 with delivery in October 2016 to SAPS in Pretoria, where they will be used to transport Nyala armoured vehicles to and from various destinations.
